2019

BR-12 Dam Reconstruction

Project Owner: Bureau of Land Management
Project Engineer: DOWL
Project focused on reconstruction of the BR-12 dam located off Highway 2 near Zurich, Montana.

Project Scope:

  • Dewater reservoir and construction area.
  • Excavate the existing dam embankment and foundation including removal of an existing grout-filled 24-inch diameter Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) and a triple-barrel 24-inch CMP and associated concrete headwalls.
  • Reconstruct the dam embankment including
    • Placement of compacted fill from onsite borrow sources
    • Placement of imported rock for riprap slope protection along the upstream face
    • Placement and compaction of imported sand and gravel for internal filter and drain features
    • Construct toe drain system consisting of drain pipes, precast concrete manholes, flow measurement flumes, and imported sand and gravel
    • Construct precast concrete spillway riser for a new principal spillway and construct concrete encased, precast reinforced concrete pipe outlet conduit
    • Construct concrete low-level inlet and gate control structures including installation of inclined slide gate and concrete encased gate stem
  • Construct concrete low-level inlet and gate control structures including installation of inclined slide gate and concrete encased gate stem.
  • Construct grouted riprap stilling basin.
  • Excavation and grading for new auxiliary spillway.
  • Place gravel road surfacing along the crests of the dam and auxiliary spillway.
  • Reclaim all disturbed areas including staging areas and temporary roads. Reclamation consists of preparation of the soil for seeding but does not include seeding.

2014

Triple Crossing Dam Reconstruction

Project Owner: Bureau of Land Management
Project Engineer: DOWL HKM
This project consisted of repairing Triple Crossing Dam located 34 miles southwest of Glasgow, Montana.

Project included:

  • excavation and removal of the existing steel outlet pipe and gate
  • reconstruction of embankment
  • filled downstream scour hole
  • construction of concrete encased, precast reinforced concrete outlet conduit, precast concrete riser, and grouted riprap stilling basin
  • reconstructing dam embankment at new outlet works
  • placement of upstream riprap and gravel slope protection
  • installation of internal chimney and blanket drain system

 

Itcaina Dam Reconstruction

Project Owner: Bureau of Land Management
Project Engineer: DOWL HKM

This project consisted of repairing Itcaina Retention Dam, located 27 miles southwest of Glasgow, Montana.

Project included:

  • excavation and removal of existing CMP principal spillway
  • construction of concrete encased, precast reinforced concrete outlet conduit, precast concrete riser, and grouted riprap stilling basin.
  • Excavation of new auxiliary spillway
  • fill existing breach in auxiliary spillway
  • reconstructing dam embankment at new outlet works
  • placement of upstream riprap and gravel slope protection
  • installation of internal chimney and blanket drain system
  • reclamation of all disturbed areas

2013

Plum Creek Road Repairs

Project included:

  • cleaning and grading ditches
  • excavation of eroded roadway and shoulder
  • hauling and placing pit run
  • placing crushed top surfacing
  • installation of riprap wall, outlet protection, bedding material, and geotextile
  • location and identification of underground spring
  • placement of asphalt corrugated metal pipe
  • conducting erosion control
  • hydro-seeding

 

Mildred Ismay Cut-Across Road Repairs

Project included:

  • embankment construction and excavation
  • installing rock-filled wire gabion armoring system
  • minor regarding, and installation of geotechnical slope stabilization

 

Little Missouri Special Waste Landfill

Project included:

  • excavation of landfill and retention pond
  • road construction
  • installation of moisture conditioned clay liner and high-density polyethylene fabric liners
  • construction of a leachate collection system

Upper Baker Lake Sediment Removal

Project Owner: Fallon Country Montana
Project Engineer: Brosz Engineering

Project included:

  • Removal of sediment from a large portion of Upper Baker Lake
  • Repaired face scarp
  • installation of articulated concrete block systems on the dam face

 

Jim Dam

Project included:

  • breaching dam embankment
  • installation of a new RCP concrete encased outlet works
  • installation of a grouted outlet basin
  • installation of rip rap slope protection
  • excavation and compaction of dam crest and face
